茶台結び
The Chadai-Musubi features a pattern structure where Awaji knots are repeated continuously. It is one of Japan’s fundamental knots and did not originate from traditional shimekazari forms. Its structure, which is difficult to untie once knotted, embodies wishes for connecting “people with people” and “bonds with bonds” to last eternally. This is why it is frequently used in mizuhiki.By arranging these Awagi knots in a large continuous loop, themes of “harmony” and “permanence” are further emphasized, making it a form befitting celebration. It is also a special piece that can be enjoyed as an art creation unique to the Yamakawa family, specialists in the traditional art of twisting and twining hemp fibers.
