HISAKO SEKIJIMA ー Basketry
From April 20th to May 7th 10:00 to 18:00 closed on Tuesday
"Baskets are really wonderful tools for life. But I am more intrigued to explore their shape as a container of emptiness and the logic of the gaps and intervals, that build their shape. These negative spaces and their structure show abstract beauty, which holds something very appealing to me. I enjoy meditating about material, structure and form and analysing their relationships. And this joy increases year by year."
The artist will join us on April 21st and 22nd.

18 EIGHTEEN TEA BOWLS 3 ー 22 January 2018 10:00 to 18:00 closed on Tuesday
We will greet the New Year 2018 with an exhibition of 18 outstanding tea bowls, made by ceramic artists whom we have loved and followed since we started the gallery. Each of these bowls is a universe in itself. Each stands firmly and is extremely well shaped. And this is the same as our wish for all of you: A well-shaped New Year and a firm open standing to overcome all the challenges that the year will bring us.
On the 3rd we will welcome everybody with free matcha and freshly made New Year sweets. From the 4th the gallery and tearoom toka will be open as usual.
TAKAHIRO YAMAMOTO New Lacquer Works
From 8th to 25th of December Open daily 10:00 to 18:00 Closed on Tuesday
The artist will join us on Dec. 8, 9, 10
With his new works done for our exhibition Takahiro Yamamoto enters new ground: Showing the shadow within the light. Contrasting shiny and matt surfaces. Changing between naked wood and lacquered surfaces. Pleasing the shape through the pattern.
We will show mainly plates and dishes: Deep plates, flat plates, plates with a small rim, plates with broad rims. All in well balanced, sharp proportions. Useful in Japanese and Western cuisine to bring out the colour and texture of the food at its best.
