MORIOKA Mitsuo

"There’s nothing more beautiful than the forms and colors that nature produces. If my ceramics can come close to the colors and forms one finds in nature then I’m pleased. Beauty is not something special; it’s in normal things, in the everyday.

I love the old Chinese ceramics. When I look at them, I feel what the people of those times considered natural, how they saw and grasped nature.

Of all living things, I’m most fascinated by bumble bees, wasps and bees. I can look at the forms of their nests for hours. They are divine creations that instinctively, all by themselves, without thinking, build these forms. To me, they are a miracle. They give me to think a lot."
