ENOMOTO Chifuyu

"Weaving bamboo doesn’t require a lot of tools. With a sharp knife and good hands one can weave almost any form. This simplicity was one of my main reasons for becoming a bamboo weaver.

Weaving is a play and coming to terms with tension and elasticity. If I bend the piece of bamboo too much it snaps, too little and it loses its stability. Only my fingers can tell me how far I can go. That’s why the forms sometimes deviate from the original plan during the work process.

Recently I’ve been especially interested in combining bamboo and lacquer."
