BAHLMANN Alexandra

"For me, jewellery has to have an aspect of service. It has to be subordinate to the personality of the wearer and it has to be pleasant to have on. Good jewellery comes into being when the craft, the action of the hands and the form become one. If that is achieved, it is not necessary to dress up a piece through craftman’s acrobatics or ambitious artistic statements.

Repetition, rhythm, flexibility. Those are the issues that interest me the most. My work is concentrated almost entirely on necklaces. It is a nearly endless and extremely exciting task to constantly find and develop new three-dimensional forms that can be lined up as links in a chain. The form and the connections have to flow into each other and they have to be able to move freely against each other, both horizontally and vertically."
