NINJÔ Yoshikatsu

"When I begin working on a piece, I don’t have an exact image of the form I want to turn.

When I carve, I let the wood guide me. The form then emerges little by little. I often have the feeling that it’s not my hands but rather the wood that guides my blade.

For me it’s about what remains when one puts aside all of one’s ideas about making something special and throws away the will to find one’s own style."
